2020 Spring Ephemerals in Southern WV 3-24-2020

#364 - Harbinger-Of-Spring

Harbinger-Of-Spring is a wildflower that I've known about and can identify, but had never came across it before. So it becomes the 364th new West Virginia wildflower for my attempt to photograph and record every wildflower that I can in West Virginia.

Purpose

In 2013, I started this blog to photograph and record every wildflower that I can in West Virginia for one year. In that one year, I was able to find and photograph 308 wildflowers. These include natives, tree, shrubs and introduced flowers that have been here awhile and are here to stay. I was inspired to do this after reading several books about orchids and birding.

Now, in 2014 and the future, I am adding flowers that I missed in the past hope to create a pretty comprehensive list of WV wildflowers.

Why don't I use proper scientific names ?

It has been suggested that I should use scientific names for the flowers that I identify. I could do that by using Google, but, when I read blogs or forums that use only scientific names I get frustrated, I have to Google it to see if the author is referring to Nodding Ladies Tresses or Shining Ladies Tresses or maybe Slender Ladies Tresses. I cannot remember all of them, so I plan to use the most common name for this region but I am going to try to make every common name a link to the USDA Plants Profile page for that plant. There you will see the scientific name, range maps and other useful info. Thanks for your interest.
